Read what people are saying about Dragoncillo!

“The shadow puppet version of ¡Quijóteres! […] was the best adaptation for the stage of Cervantes’s novel that I have ever seen. I hope Dragoncillo will be able to perform it in dozens of venues for many years to come.”

“[T]his can be especially insightful to young students who have never experienced puppetry in person before.”

Dragoncillo was highlighted at the 2024 Reach Higher Showcase at Grand Valley State University.

“This was an incredible opportunity to provide our Bowdoin students training to showcase their languages through shadow puppets and create a joyful and memorable experience for all the three hundred or so kids.”

“It’s very amazing to see how much dedication he put into this [….] His need to share stories in unique ways left an impression on me.”

Enrichment Through Collaboration is at the Heart of Our Mission

ELIZABETH IBARRA, a student of Prof. Albalá-Pelegrín, presented her subtitled translation and transcription of a Dragoncillo show (Café Dynamite) at the 2022 Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) hosted by Pepperdine University. Her presentation illustrated how these kinds of subtitles empower bilingualism in Hispanic communities and beyond: “Public Facing Humanities is one of the most vibrant fields of Early Modern Studies and collaborations such as this one shows the importance of making available bilingual content for K-12 students”. Congratulations Elizabeth! We are grateful to you and Prof. Albalá-Pelegrín for enhancing our repertoire with such a valuable resource!

The deep scholarship of Dr. Fernández’s study is firmly rooted in her extensively researched appreciation of the historical, cultural and literary aspects of her subjects […] that will certainly bear multiple readings.”
